A MAN was stabbed in a house in Osborne Street.
Police were initially called by paramedics, who were first on the scene, shortly before 9am this morning.
The 33-year-old man had suffered stab wounds to his chest and back.
He has been taken to Colchester General Hospital after being treated by paramedics.
His wounds are not believed to be life-threatening.
A woman was detained at Open Road, off Queen Street, shortly after 9.20am, after a search was launched.
She is being interviewed at Colchester police station on suspicion of GBH with intent.
A spokesman for the East of England Ambulance Service Trust said: "We were called just before 9am to reports of a stabbing and dispatched an ambulance, paramedic officer and the Essex Air Ambulance.
"[The victim] has been treated for injuries to his chest and back which are not thought to be life threatening."
