COMMUTERS and businesses have been urged to join a campaign calling on the Government to spend more on ther railways.
The New Anglia Local Enterprise Partnership, MPs, businesses and rail leaders have set up a taskforce calling for a more reliable service on the London to Norwich line.
One of the aims is to improve the journey time so Colchester to London takes 40 minutes, instead of 50 minutes.
The Great Eastern Rail Campaign will report to the Government in November, making an economic case for investment in the line, so it needs business and rail users to get in touch.
David Burch, director of policy at Essex Chambers of Commerce and a member of the taskm force, said: “The line is a vital artery for businesses, commuters and residents.
With the county’s economy continuing to grow we believe the proposed improvements are essential to protect jobs and help to create new ones.
“Essex Chambers of Commerce fully supports the campaign in its aspirations to deliver better and faster trains.”
Campaigners want the Government to spend more money on tracks and trains, increase the capacity and improve passengers’ experience.
They want journey times between the capital and Chelmsford improved to 25 minutes, Ipswich in 60 minutes and Norwich in 90 minutes.
