A MUM whose kitchen was voted the worst in Britain is celebrating its £3,000 makeover.
Jeanette Angel, of New Town, Colchester, was entered into the competition run by mybuilder.com, by her sister Louise.
Louise, 29, of Bradwell, was pregnant and nearly full-term when she went into labour a couple of weeks early in February.
She underwent an emergency Caesarian, but baby Beatrix did not survive.
Instead of having a big wedding bash, Jeanette and partner Anthony held a low-key wedding in June, as they spent the money on Beatrix’s funeral.
It was Jeanette’s generosity which stole the hearts of the public and the judging panel.
The makeover was completed this week with new fittings donated by Benchmarx Kitchens & Joinery, Chelmsford, and Travis Perkins, Colchester.
Jeanette said: “It is amazing. I am humbled by how everyone has pulled together to do this, we are so appreciative.
“We never thought in our lifetime we would have something so high-spec in our kitchen.
“It is making a real difference to the family and the children are cooking in it too.”
Jeanette, 33, moved to her home with Anthony, her son Aiden, eight, and daughter Chloe, 11, last December.
But for months they had to make do without heating, hot water or even a kitchen sink.
