A man has been arrested after firing a high-powered air gun at police.

Officers and mental health professionals attended an address in Dugard Avenue this afternoon, but withdrew after a possible firearm was seen.

The area was cordoned off and additional police resources were called.

Shortly after 6.30pm, a man was arrested at the scene.

He has been taken to Colchester police station for questioning.

A suspected air weapon has been recovered from the scene.

An area of Dugard Avenue, between Straight Road and Oaklands Avenue, was closed by police while they dealt with the incident.
