CAMPAIGNER Sam White hopes to ruffle some feathers while touring Europe dressed as a chicken.
Sam, 24, of Manningtree, will don the costume to call for clearer labelling on supermarket chickens to tell customers how they were reared.
The former East Bergholt High School pupil will visit 21 countries in 39 days to hand out leaflets about the campaign.
Sam is no stranger to fancy dress costumes, having worked at Colchester Zoo for two years dressing up as the Stand Tall giraffe, Sonny Bear and other characters.
She said: “I will be using my skill set, which has been film-making and working at Colchester Zoo.
“So manymeat and dairy labels use confusing language and images, which suggest animals are kept in extensive, spacious, natural conditions even when the animals have been reared in standard intensive systems.
“Consumers can drive improvements in the way farmanimals are reared, but they can only do this if there is honest, comparable information on products they buy.”
The fine arts and English graduate is hoping to pursue a career in animal welfare.
The Labelling Matters project, run by the RSPCA, World Animal Protection, Compassion in World Farming and the Soil Association, lasts for 39 days – the lifetime of an intensively-reared chicken.
