A SAFE containing a butchers’ weekend takings was ripped off a wall during a break-in.
The solid oak front door of Arthur Cock and Son, in Yorick Road, West Mersea, was damaged during the raid.
Daniel Sutton, who owns the shop, said the door has been there since the shop opened more than 100 years ago.
The safe, dark grey and about the size of a small, old fashioned portable TV, was stolen.
