An eight-week scheme to take rainwater away from road surfaces aims to reduce the risk of flooding for Greenstead residents.
Anglian Water will construct 115 metres of new sewers and manholes in Forest Road, starting today.
The new sewer system is designed to take water away from hard surfaces, providing protection from flooding problems which have affected the estate in the past.
Antony Innes, from Anglian Water, said: “Any type of flooding is understandably very traumatic for those involved.
“This is why we’re constantly investing in projects like this to improve our network and help reduce the risk of flooding.”
Parts of Forest Road will be closed during the works, while Alyssum Walk will also be closed to through traffic, with limited access to garages during working hours.
Mr Innes said: “We know this will be disruptive to residents in this area but hope they will understand the importance and the long term benefits and reduced risk of flooding for their neighbours.”
The project is due to be completed by the end of September.
