Conservative candidate Alan Goggin has been elected as the new county councillor for Brightlingsea following yesterday's by-election.
Mr Goggin, who also represents the town on Tendring District Council, won the seat with a majority of 167, ahead of UKIP's Anne Poonian.
A by-election was triggered by the resignation of UKIP councillor Roger Lord, who quit the party after being ousted as Clacton's parliamentary candidate in favour of Douglas Carswell.
The turnout for the election was 36.43%.
