MOTORSPORTS enthusiasts can participate in a vintage rally on Sunday.
The Layer Marney cup – a fuel efficiency trial – first took place on June 6, 1914.
The event is being re-run across Essex, with a host of classic cars taking part. The first cup was won by Fred Byford who averaged 42.26 miles per gallon in his Unic car.
Historic vehicles will start the journey in Southchurch Park, Southend, at 10.30am and travel through Essex, finally finishing at Layer Marney Tower at about 3.30pm.
Organiser Sheila Carrington said: “I am looking forward to seeing how the cars consume fuel consumption and how it has changed over the decades.
“It will be really interesting to see how every decade compares. I imagine the most recent cars will be quite good.”
