A SIXTEEN-year-old girl will be skydiving for charity this September.

Molly Giles will take the plunge for St Helena Hospice, Colchester, in memory of her grandmother, Pat Abbott.

She said: “The hospice was always there. The support they gave us, as well as my nan, was immeasurable, and the medical care was just amazing.

“They made her feel as comfortable as possible.

There was a lot of aftercare and support.”

Molly, from Basildon, will fall through the air for about one minute strapped to an instructor, after taking off in an aircraft from Beccles Airfield, Suffolk.

Molly, who approached the charity about the challenge, said: “I am little bit scared, but excited. It’s something I always wanted to do, but I never got round to it.

“I think after I have jumped I will feel proud that I have actually done it.”

Mrs Abbott, from Halstead, died in August 2009 in St Helena Hospice after suffering from leukaemia.

Julie Giles, Molly’s mum said: “I am very proud. I think she is brave for doing it.”

Molly has previously raised money for the charity by participating in the pierto- pier walk, covering 14 miles, from Clacton to Walton.

The youngster, who wants to be a lawyer, has raised £500 so far and hopes to raise £1,000 by the time she jumps.

A spokesman for St Helena Hospice said: “We would like to thank Molly for her fantastic fundraising efforts.

“£500 could pay for 16 visits from our bereavement team, supporting people who are dealing with the death of a loved one.

“It’s people like Molly that ensure we can continue to support those in need.”
