AN amateur photographer captured this spectacular shot of the Perseid meteor shower over Mersea Island.
Shaun Mills, 46, took the photo from the back garden of his Kingsland Road home at about 11pm on Wednesday.
The display, which could be seen across Europe, occurred as a result of material falling from the tail of Comet Swift-Tuttle.
Mr Mills said: "It was quite surreal.
"They did leave a nice trail behind them. It was my first time trying to photograph them.
"I surprised myself as to how well they turned out."
