A CONCERNED councillor has called for action claiming buses have left an “oil slick” on a road.
Dave Harris, borough and county councillor for Colchester’s Berechurch ward, said Gosfield Road, Colchester has become a death trap.
He said the road is used as a bus stand by First buses on the 67,67a and 175 routes and by Tellings-Golden Miller on the number 8 bus route. He said: “It’s disgraceful. There is a huge patch of oil from buses, about 45ft long.
“I am a cyclist and a motorcyclist, I am really concerned about it.
“Anybody who cycles knows how vulnerable you are when these things happen.”
Legislation states all commercial vehicles, including buses, should store oil in a container of sufficient strength it is unlikely to leak or burst.
Mr Harris has requested a steam clean of the road and has contacted the bus companies.
He said: “It goes without saying cyclists and motorcyclists are vulnerable to oil on the road, especially when it gets wet from rain.”
First buses and Tellings- Golden Miller have refused to comment.
