A BRIDGE which was beset with problems during its repair has been featured on a Channel 5 show.

Bakers Lane Bridge featured on Stop! Roadworks Ahead as it was closed for 15 months, six months longer than expected.

The cost of repairing the bridge also went over budget from £400,000 to over £750,000.

The project was delayed due to a number of problems including flooding, a fallen tree and poor ground conditions.

Residents and traders who use Spring Lane, Colchester, complained of the inconvenience caused by the delays.

Colchester councillor Martin Goss, who represents the Mile End ward, spoke on the show, which aired on Monday, about the problems caused.

He said on the show: “This link has caused a major issue for locals travelling, as it was putting more traffic though North Station which was having a bus lane built at the time. It caused a lot of misery for residents for the 15 months.”
