A GROUP of students will find out if their mobile app game has what it takes to become the next Candy Crush when it is later this week.
Laurentiu Cotiuga, George Negoita, Mircea Alex Mocian and Cristian Olteanu, who met at Essex University, spent eight months developing their game, Bobblehead Mania.
And now their wait is nearly up, as it will be released on Tuesday for people across the world to download.
George, 21, said: “We’re very excited.
“We really want to see how everyone reacts to the game, and if they like it and like our idea.”
The game begins when an experiment goes wrong in the Bobblehead laboratory and the characters need to escape.
The aim is to guide your character through the lab and get them as far out as you can.
The Bobbleheads are based on TV characters, celebrities and historical figures.
They include Breaking Bad’s Heisenberg, Cleopatra and Game of Thrones’ Dhal Krogo.
Players must swipe their screens to jump over and duck under obstacles, including flamethrowers, doors and barrels.
The game also offers a cross-platform leaderboard, so players can compete against their friends.
International relations student George said: “We think that with Bobbleheads we’re bridging the gap between TV and mobile gaming.”
The group, who are all from Romania but met at the Colchester campus, have set up a company, Novo Games, to launch their game.
George, Laurentiu and Cristian will start their third year at Essex University in October, and Alex has just graduated.
The project came about though the Games Hub, a business project for game developers funded and run by Essex University, Essex County Council and the Eastern Enterprise Hub.
The team have high hopes for their game, and are aiming for 100,000 downloads in the first three months.
It will be available on iOS and Android. For more information, visit www.novogames.co.uk
