THOUSANDS of runners are celebrating after completing the Colchester Half Marathon.
2,600 runners enjoyed the cool and clear conditions this morning at the sold out event.
The 13-mile race kicked off at 9am.
Runners set out from the Weston Homes Community Stadium and headed along Boxted Road, Mile End Road and up North Station Road towards the town centre.
The route continued up North Hill, into the High Street, down East Hill and up Ipswich Road.
The second half of the route cut through Severalls Business Park and into Boxted and Langham, winding its way back to the stadium.
Thousands of supporters kept the runners going.
Organiser Luke Wastell said: "It was absolutely brilliant.
"The biggest and best ever.
"2,600 runners is a record.
"The sun came out for 9am.
"The runners have had a good day.
"I want to say a big thank you to the 350 volunteers.
"We wouldn't be able to do it without them.
"There were no incidents or injuries which is what we aim for."
Colchester Harriers' Adrian Mussett won the race in a time of 1hr 9mins and 53 seconds.
Blair McWhirter, from Ilfords Athletics Club, came second almost three-and-a-half minutes later with Tom Cammack from Springfield Striders in third.
