A MARIACHI band made famous by Doritos adverts swapped Mexico for Mersea to film their new music video.

The Mariachis, whose catchy version of Human League’s Don’t You Want Me featured on TV, surprised walkers in front of the pastel-coloured huts on West Mersea beach.

Rather than filming for another advert, the band were shooting a video for their new single.

The four band members soaked up the sun - and the attention - while dancing, miming and stomping their feet in traditional charro suits last Thursday.

Photographer Dave Rowlands stumbled across the unusual scene while taking pictures for a friend's portfolio.

The 52-year-old warden at Waldegraves Holiday Park said: “I thought it was a nice place to do some portfolio work and I could hear this noise from down the beach.

“We went to investigate and I though ‘oh wow’ when we saw them. They were basically playing their song through speakers, dancing and asking everyone to dance. It was a very catchy tune. I wish I had thought to get their autographs.”

Grandfather-of-four Mr Rowlands and several other passers-by stopped to take pictures and videos of the performance.

He said: “They were amazingly friendly. One of the guys was pointing and smiling while I was taking his picture.

“I will definitely be buying the single - it’s going to be a hit and the huts will look really good in the video. It was a beautiful day.”

Formed by Salvador Jimenez Hernandez, the band all hail from South America and live in the UK.

As well as their Human League cover, the band’s versions of East 17′s Stay Another Day and Joan Jett’s I Love Rock & Roll were both used on Doritos adverts.

The Mariachis have performed acoustically for the Royal family, entertained a crowd of 30,000 people at the Wireless music festival and headlined the Avalon Stage at the 2014 Glastonbury Festival.
