SIR Bob Russell is back on the heritage trail this weekend as he re-starts his tours around Colchester.
An enigmatic, light-hearted and occasionally political insight into Britain’s Oldest Recorded Town, the former MP and High Steward will once again be leading visitors and residents alike on a fascinating trip into our past.
With two tours to choose from, the first one, Tour A, takes place this Sunday, April 9, from 10am.
Further Tour As take place on May 7, June 4, July 2, August 13 and September 10, while the alternative Tour B is run on April 23, May 21, June 18, July 30, August 27 and September 24.
Booked through the Colchester Arts Centre, which Sir Bob says ‘have been extremely supportive, and without whom my Heritage Tours would not be the success they have become’, he has so far raised an impressive £7,000 towards a statue of sisters Jane and Ann Taylor, who are most famous for coming up with the words to the classic nursery rhyme Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star.
Their home on West Stockwell Street is just one of the sites Sir Bob visits on his tour, as well as the Castle, Jumbo and a few not so familiar sights.
Now in its third year, to go on any of the tours either call 01206 500900 or e-mail to info@colchesterartscentre.com to book a place.
A donation of £5 towards Sir Bob’s appeal for a statue is all that is required.
