A teenager has died following a four-car pile-up.
The 18-year-old was on his way to collect his A-level results when the crash happened on the A12 at Chelmsford.
Police are expected to name the victim later today after he has been formally identified.
A silver Audi A3, white Vauxhall Corsa, silver Jaguar X-type and a red Skoda Felicia were involved in the accident around 8.30am on Thursday.
The victim, from Bushey in Hertfordshire, was a front-seat passenger in the Corsa.
He suffered severe head injuries and was taken to Queen's Hospital in Romford where he died.
The driver, another 18-year-old man, had minor chest and facial injuries.
They were travelling to collect their A level results at a college in Middlesex.
The London-bound carriageway at Chelmsford was closed for three hours after the accident yesterday.
The road was closed between Howe Green and Galleywood and reopened at noon.
