THE parents of a baby who died suddenly in his cot are hosting a fundraising day in his name.

Katie and Sam Jones lost their five-month-old son, Johnny, on August 5.

Katie, 27, of Beechwood Close in Colchester, had found her son blue and unresponsive.

The couple were told at Colchester General Hospital their son had died.

Sam, 22, a vehicle engineer in the army, had attempted CPR at home.

The couple want to raise money for other parents to learn CPR, and will be holding a fundraiser on October 27.

It will be called 'Meatballpolloza' - as they used to call their son 'meatball' because of his adorable round face.

A meatball eating contest will undoubtedly be on the agenda.

Mrs Jones said: "It will be very child orientated in the morning, and the afternoon our second hall will be centred around adults.

"We will have stalls, wine tasting, pamper products and a meatball eating contest.

"For the children there will be face painting, cake stands, fairground games and a soft and messy play area.

"We are using Johnny's memory to bring families together, and everyone is welcome to come along."

Katie has been sharing her story on social media, and has been overwhelmed by the amount of support from strangers.

The family is looking to set up a charity in Johnny's name, raising funds so parents can learn child CPR.

They have raised £2,905 so far - their initial target was just £500.

It is hoped CPR sessions will be delivered next month.

The fun day in October will be held at Layer-de-la-Haye community hall, from 10am until 5pm.

If anyone is able to help out on the day or donate prizes, they can email Katie at katie.bates@hotmail.co.uk.
