Colchester Council's leader Mark Cory has not ruled out the Lib Dems stepping aside in elections to allow potential coalition partners a clear run at a seat.
Mr Cory was talking to Gazette editor Dom Bowers in the latest Colchester Chat podcast.
He admitted the idea fits in with his "Progressive Alliance" of Lib Dem, Labour and Independent councillors.
They also discussed garden communities, Mr Cory's Better Colchester campaign, making the most of the borough's heritage and the demise of the Lib Dems nationally.
Thank you to Essex University for hosting and recording the podcast.
