A £1,000 cash injection has been added to funds for a TV project aiming to change how people think about the world of work
The EU LoCase grant is for Work TV, created by the Colchester-based Association of Pension and Benefits Claimants, which has described it as a CNN for the world of work.
With the funds ABC has invested in studio lighting from Proav, one of the film and broadcasting industry’s leading equipment suppliers, so its online films take centre stage.
Alex Mayer MEP visited founder Simon Collyer at his HQ at Essex University for a tour of where the magic happens.
She said: “I want to wish Mr Collyer the best of luck in his endeavours to spread the work about different careers paths and local vacancies.”
Cut backs to Government-funded careers services inspired Mr Collyer to create the multi-media platform, he told the MEP.
While new legislation required schools to seek independent and impartial careers guidance, no additional funding was allocated.
This entrepreneur hopes to fill a gap in the market and has already talked to the Department of Education about his plans.
He said: "The channel is also designed as a resource for careers teachers, schools and higher education establishments, and the hard-pressed businessman needing to keep up-to-date and find staff via the channel's app.
"Rupert Murdock may not be hiding behind his desk just yet but we have no shortage of ambition, although more funding would certainly help."
