PLANS to build 150 homes in a village have been rubber stamped by the planning committee.
Gladman Developments' plans for land north of Halstead Road, in Eight Ash Green, were unanimously approved by councillors at a meeting on Thursday.
The site, which will include 30 per cent affordable homes, has been allocated for housing in Colchester Council's emerging Local Plan and Eight Ash Green's Neighbourhood Plan, which is set to go to a referendum in the coming months.
Kevin Waters, planning director for the applicant, said: "We have worked proactively with officers, consultees and the neighbourhood plan group throughout the last two years to ensure this application fully delivers the community's aspirations and needs.
"As the scheme is built out, 150 families will be able to join the community, 45 of these will be accommodated in affordable housing allowing them to live in a home which is up to the highest standards.
"The scheme will also see the creation of almost four hectares of public open space ensuring there will be no impact on wildlife sites and providing new community space in the village.
"The parish council will have the option to take the management of this with funding provided. A new playground will also be created.
"This development will meet the requirement of Eight Ash Green as set out in the neighbourhood plan and the emerging Local Plan."
A road which is suitable for HGVs is set to be built through the estate connecting Fidler's Hill to the A1124.
