FAMILIES stopped by to visit Santa at Colchester Castle.
The castle hosted a festive open evening, opening its doors for free to families.
Mince pies and mulled wine were on offer and families joined in with carols.
Julie Young, deputy leader of Colchester Council, said: “Christmas is always a special time at Colchester Castle.
“It has a charming festive atmosphere, making it a magical place to take the family over the holidays.
“It was incredibly heartwarming to see so many children and adults enjoy meeting Santa and his elves.
“This is the fourth year running Father Christmas has set up his grotto in the architectural splendour of the Lucas Vault.
“It’s delightful to know in the run-up to Christmas, hundreds more children are expected to meet Santa and his elves, whisper their festive wishes into an oyster shell and receive a special gift.”
