WE all know what a tough time charities have had during the Covid-19 pandemic.
They rely on donations from the public and fundraising events to raise the money needed to keep their services going.
At the onset of the pandemic and the subsequent lockdown money became horrendously tight for everyone as the country shut up shop.
Events had to be cancelled so no money was raised for what are vital services.
But even against this background the closure of Chavasse VC House in Colchester comes as a thunderbolt.

The recovery centre is run by the military charity Help for Heroes and provides support to former servicemen and women who have suffered physical, mental and emotional injuries while serving their country.
Anyone who has visited the centre knows of the exceptional work which has been done to transform lives and, in some cases, save them.
The centre has been supported by the Colchester public since it opened eight years ago to the tune of hundreds of thousands of pounds including support for the Gazette’s £100,000 Hope on the Horizon garden appeal.
Now Help for Heroes says the centre will be closed for the foreseeable future.
But we are begging the charity to think again.

While it says services will continue, an online chat cannot be the same as the support and inspiration offered at the centre.
There the band of brothers find solace and support.
Our heroes gave so much for us. We must not give up on them.
