CONCERNED business owners say they have suffered "another blow" after council bosses succeeded in placing tighter restrictions on the county.
Yesterday health secretary Matt Hancock agreed to move Essex from the coronavirus medium tier to the high tier, at the request of Essex Council.
The switch means people will not be able to mix with other households indoors, but can still meet up as part of a group of six in an outdoor setting.
Although some have welcomed the decision, believing it will help stop the rise in Covid-19, business owners believe it could mark the end.
Stephen Mayzes, from Little Clacton, is the owner of Amazing Activities, and also runs a large portfolio of leisure and tourism businesses in Essex.
He said: "This is disappointing news and another blow to businesses while they are down.
"This will damage consumer confidence which is already low and will no doubt have devastating consequences to the county's businesses and economy."
Colchester Council, however, has now worked to reassure business owners.
A spokesman said: "We will be doing everything we can to support businesses.
"We are encouraging the Government to provide as much support as possible."
