Colchester's town centre Argos store has closed.
After all Argos stores were closed when lockdown restrictions were imposed back in March, the chain began preparing to reopen the first of 140 branches in June.
But now Sainsbury's, the group which owns Argos, has announced Colchester's town centre store, in Long Wyre Street, will shut up shop for good.
An Argos spokesman said: “Last year we announced a review of our estate, which included plans to close 60-70 standalone Argos stores and we have now updated colleagues on our plans to close the Argos store in Colchester, on Long Wyre Street.
"Customers can continue to shop with us in nearby Sainsbury’s and Argos stores.
“Colleagues will have the opportunity to redeploy to other available roles in the area.
"We understand this will be an unsettling time for those affected and we are supporting them in any way we can.”
Colchester's nearest Argos store is at Tollgate retail park.
