A KIND-hearted donor has gifted £1,000 to an appeal to fund a specialist standing frame for a wheelchair-bound MS patient.
Jay Denton has been unable to visit and use the state-of-the-art equipment at MS-UK’s Josephs Court, in Hythe Quay, for six months due to coronavirus restrictions.
And the charity has now announced the wellness centre will not be reopening due to the financial hit it has taken during the crisis.
This left Jay, and others like her, not knowing where to turn for specialist treatment.
Friend Helen Yates set up a fundraising page in a bid to raise £6,100 in order to purchase a specialist standing frame for Jay to have at her St John’s home.
The standing frame would allow Jay, 51, to get a small amount of independence back as she hasn't been able to stand up since Josephs Court closed.
A third of the cash has already been donated by supporters, including a hefty £1,000 gift from friend and fellow MS sufferer Sylvie.
Jay said: "Obviously, I'm hoping my story will raise some more funds but also raise awareness lockdown is having a detrimental effect on the chronically ill and disabled.
"Also, it is amazing that so many people from all walks of life are stepping up to donate whatever they can to help me achieve my target."
