A HEADTEACHER has spoken of her pride after pupils dug deep and raised hundreds of pounds to help those suffering during the pandemic.
Youngsters at Holy Trinity Primary School in Eight Ash Green have been going above and beyond to help those less fortunate than themselves.
Since returning to school in September they have helped Colchester Foodbank, the Royal British Legion, Children in Need and a Christmas shoebox appeal.
And not content with that the 105 pupils have also devised a way to spread some Christmas joy to care homes by recording their nativity play.
Headteacher Ceri Daniels said: “The children wanted to look after other people and have been fantastic.
“Some of our community are finding it difficult and we have people on furlough or who have been made redundant.
“Despite some families having their own difficulties they have all reached out to support.
“I have been overwhelmed by the response.”
The fundraising included donating enough food to feed a family of four for over a week via Colchester Foodbank.
The school also held an online Remembrance service and raised money for the British Legion Poppy appeal and is expecting to raise £70 for the charity.
Pupils made 25 Christmas shoe box parcels to send out to Romania for the 500 Smiles Christmas appeal
And they have raised £120 for Children in Need.
Mrs Daniels said: “The children wanted to help and look out for others.
“It really touched me and for them to want to do this is such a wonderful quality.
“I am very proud of them.”
Disappointed visitors from nearby care homes won’t be able to visit the school to see their nativity, so the pupils decided to ensure they didn’t go without.
The school has purchased a camera and will film the nativity.
Pupils are also hard at work making Christmas cards for care home residents.
