COVID marshals will offer guidance to shoppers and visitors to Colchester as part of a bid to ensure rules are followed and understood.
Colchester Council is employing the patrolling marshals to make sure the borough remains a safe place to visit.
They will be deployed for six days a week.
Mike Lilley, councillor responsible for public safety, said: “We are delighted to welcome people back to Colchester following the national lockdown.
“We are committed to ensuring their return is safe and that they have the support and facilities available to feel confident enjoying everything our borough has to offer.
“As part of this, we have appointed new marshals, who will provide our community with any advice or guidance they need on the current tier two regulations.
“They offer a friendly, approachable face for people to chat to if they are looking for reassurance.
“Plus, they can supply face masks and hand sanitizer to anyone who needs it.
“They will be working six days a week across the whole borough.”
