RESIDENTS are being invited to have their say on plans for a new housing development north of Wivenhoe.

The proposed site, off Richard Avenue, is allocated for residential development of a minimum of 120 homes in the Wivenhoe Neighbourhood Plan.

The neighbourhood plan was approved in the referendum held on May 2 in 2019.

Housing developer Taylor Wimpey said its application for the homes will deliver the objectives set out within the neighbourhood plan document.

Sam Caslin, planning manager for Taylor Wimpey London, said he is keen to hear people’s views on the development.

He added: “Gathering the views of the local community is a vital stage in the development process, and we are eager to hear what the Wivenhoe community thinks of our proposals.

“We know that local residents spent a lot of time putting together the Wivenhoe Neighbourhood Plan, and our proposals have been drawn up based on the principles in this document.

“All views will be taken on board and used to shape our final planning application, and we are grateful to everyone who takes part in our consultation process.”

The Wivenhoe Neighbourhood Plan was written by a group of volunteers to guide planning decisions in the area.

A total of 2,771 people voted for the neighbour plan and there were 342 votes against it.

It means the neighbourhood plan is part of Colchester Council’s local plan.

The proposed development, located near Wivenhoe’s football ground, will have a mix of high quality homes, 20 per cent of which will be affordable in line with the neighbourhood plan.

The new development will also provide land for new sports fields, a play area and open space with improved footpath and cycle links.

The public consultation will run online from Monday to February 14.

A Taylor Wimpey spokesman added: “By providing us with your feedback via you can help to influence the details of the final scheme before we submit our full detailed planning application to Colchester Council.”

The housebuilder hopes to submit a full detailed planning application to the council by March.

It hopes for a planning decision by the summer and looks to start on site work this autumn.

By next spring Taylor Wimpey plans to put the first completed homes on the development up for sale.
