OUR recent spread on former Clacton pubs rekindled special memories for Lyn and Dave Ewer.
The couple met at the town’s former Marine pub, in Rosemary Road.
“It has so many happy memories for us,” said Lyn.
“My husband and I met in The Marine 52 years ago this year, in August, 1969.
“I came to Clacton for the Bank Holiday weekend with a group of friends and we stayed at Sacketts Grove, in Jaywick Lane.
“After a visit to the pier, we decided to go for a drink in the pub and that’s where I met Dave.
“Although we lived 50 miles apart - I was in Billericay and Dave in Clacton - we kept in touch and met up at weekends, enjoying many happy Saturday nights in The Marine.
“We also celebrated our engagement party there.”
Lyn, 68, and Dave, 74, have lived in Clacton since marrying in August 1973.
They have a son, Niki, and two granddaughters, Lola and Ava.
“We’ve enjoyed nearly 48 years together,” added Lyn.
“It’s just a shame The Marine isn’t still there to go for a drink!”
According to the website www.closedpubs.co.uk The Marine was demolished in the mid-1980s.
Meanwhile, to quench the thirst for more nostalgia, here are four more pubs from the district.
Do you remember The Cherry Tree, The Crown or the Live and Let Live, all of which were once in Tendring village?
Or maybe you once enjoyed a drink at The Red Lion, on The Green in Great Bentley.
