THOUSANDS of parents will have special memories of our former maternity hospital.
The hospital, in Lexden Road, Colchester, was built in 1932 and open for 65 years.
It was then demolished in 1997 and services were moved to Colchester General Hospital.
An elegant row of Georgian-style town houses in Sovereign Crescent now stands on the site and the last baby born at the hospital was to Karen and Michael Moon, of Wargrave Road, Clacton.
Later that day, the hospital closed for good and senior midwife Celia Coulson said: "There are a lot of memories tied up for me here – a lot of good times."
We've delved into the archives to find these old pictures from the hospital.
