THE coronavirus infection rate across Colchester has more than halved in a week, latest figures show.
The latest Government figures show the borough's infection rate during the seven days to February 12 was 88.9 cases per 100,000 people.
This is down from 210.1 cases per 100,000 people a week earlier.
There were 173 cases of Covid confirmed in Colchester in the week to February 12, compared with 409 the week before.
In Tendring the rate has also fallen to 178.8 cases per 100,000 people, down from 250.4 the week before.
In the latest seven day period there were 262 cases.
Across Essex every area has seen a fall in coronavirus cases.

Of the 315 local areas in England, 16 have seen a rise in case rates and 299 have seen a fall.
Middlesbrough has the highest rate in England, with 449 new cases recorded in the seven days to February 12 – the equivalent of 318.5 cases per 100,000 people.

This is down from 356.8 cases per 100,000 people in the seven days to February 5.
Corby in Northamptonshire has the second highest rate, down from 432.0 to 315.7, with 228 new cases.
Sandwell in the West Midlands is in third place, down from 409.5 to 291.7, with 958 new cases.
