A handful of areas in Colchester are now recording three or fewer cases of coronavirus.

It comes as the Government begins to look at a roadmap out of the third national lockdown.

Covid infection rates are halving every two weeks thanks to the national lockdown, a study has found.

The research saw more than 85,000 swab tests carried out across England between February 4 and 13 and showed just one in 200 people tested positive for coronavirus.

The findings from Imperial College London’s React study show that infections in England declined markedly from January into February.

According to the study, the R number is 0.72 and the number of infections is halving every 14.6 days.

The data can also be compared to show how the number of new cases has changed over different time periods.

The latest map, for the seven days to February 13, show five areas in Colchester now have four or fewer cases of covid.

  • Horkesley Heath, Langham & Dedham - 4
  • West Bergholt & Wormingford - 4

Colchester's infection rate is now 88.3 cases per 100,000 people with 172 new cases in the seven days to February 14.

This is down from a rate of 188.5 the week before.
