VICTORIA Gamble has been a real rock for those with learning disabilities during the pandemic.

That's the view of Gazette reader Amanda Hudson, who made the nomination for our popular Community Champion feature.

Mrs Gamble is the advocacy and support project manager at registered charity Colchester Gateway Clubs.

She is also a learning disability nurse and has spent many years supporting people in north Essex.

Mrs Gamble is used to dealing with a crisis and supporting the most vulnerable through the various layers of issues they encounter.

However, when the pandemic and first lockdown was announced, she used her experience, drive and support to really step up to the plate.

Colchester Gateway manager Mrs Hudson said: "She exceeded expectations and consistently went the extra mile, every day, to help the learning disability community.

"By working with other local groups, she delivered foodbank parcels and maintained much-needed contact with people with learning disabilities and their families.

"She made doorstep visits and emergency trips to the hospital, keeping carers up to day with the ever-changing guidelines specific to people with learning disabilities.

"She also arranged Covid testing."

Mrs Gamble managed this in addition to her day job with the Colchester Gateway Clubs charity, successfully allaying her clients' fears and anxieties about Covid 19.

"Her dedication and commitment has never wavered during three lockdowns," added Mrs Hudson.

"Victoria deserves my thanks and admiration for all she has done and continues to do.

"Without her hard work and support, many people with a learning disability would have suffered more than they already have.

"She's been able to prevent many a crisis for individuals who haven't had anyone to turn to in these difficult times."
