SAINSBURY'S is opening a new car wash and valet service in the car park at its store in Stanway after plans were approved.
A planning application for the new development has been approved by Colchester Council.
Nine car park spaces at the north of the store's car park, in Western Approach, will be taken up by the new service.
A canopy, cabin and associated signage will be installed as part of the development.
A planning report states: "The proposed car valet and wash facility is a hand-held car wash and will include a wet area over four standard bays and the erection of a canopy over four standard bays.
"As part of the proposed car valet and wash facility, the proposals also include the provision of a two-roomed porta-cabin which will be used by employees.
"A new drainage channel will be created along the length of the car wash area which will connect into the existing foul drainage system.
"The proposal also includes associated non-illuminated signage which will be mounted to the external elevations of the proposed car washing facility and porta-cabin office."

Plans have been rubber stamped by Colchester Council planning officers, subject to a number of conditions such as when development must start by.
The report adds: "The proposed development would result in the loss of nine car parking spaces.
"The reduction in car parking spaces is minimal are there is a currently large amount of surplus spaces within the car park.
"The proposed car valet and wash facility would be predominantly used by customers already visiting the Sainsbury’s store.
"Customers would typically leave their cars within the car wash facility whilst undertaking their shopping.
"As such, the proposals will not create an increase in trip generation to the store and there would be no impact on the existing transport network.
"The proposal also includes one metre wide walkway to provide a safe route for pedestrians within the Sainsbury’s car park, ensuring accessibility for all."
