A GRANDMOTHER has been getting creative during lockdown and has now published two children’s books with her own illustrations.

Jenny Meadows has been isolating through each lockdown at her home in Coggeshall.

So to keep busy she began drawing pictures of pets walking past her front window.

Now, after building her confidence, the 74-year-old has written and published two children’s books featuring her own illustrations.

Her granddaughter Ella Crisp said her grandmother had “always been creative” but her confidence has grown over the last year.

Jenny, who has two children and three grandchildren, plans to donate all the profits from the books to Colchester Cat Rescue from where she adopted her cat Cyril, the inspiration behind one of the books.

19-year-old Ella said: “As most of our grandparents have been isolating through different lockdowns, I wanted to share something positive that has happened during that time.

“We have always known her to be creative when it comes to art, but she has never done anything like this before and lockdown has given her this purpose.

“For the past year she has been drawing pictures of pets she would see walking daily past her front window.

“The more she drew, the more confident she became.

With the help of her daughter, Nic, who has published two of her own books, Jenny put together two children’s books, Cyril the Cat and Chi Chi the Lovable Family Dog, complete with her illustrations.

Ella added: “With the help from my mum, having published two books and my dad running his own graphic design business, they were able to make this happen.

“I am so proud her. They’re adorable.

“She spent her life looking after her children, volunteering and working in the local community.

“She is very kind and is always thinking of others,”

Both books are available to order on Amazon with all profits going to Colchester Cat Rescue,

The charity was formed in 1974 by Sheila Parsonson to supporting Colchester and surrounding areas.

It is dependent entirely on fundraising with the help of the charity shop in Colchester town centre.

Both books are aimed at children ages five and under.
