VOLUNTEERS are needed to help shape plans for a 9,000 home new town on the border of Colchester and Tendring.
Following the launch of the engagement website for the Garden Community Project, volunteers are now being recruited for two community groups.
As outlined in the Garden Community Engagement and Consultation Strategy, the two community groups will form an important part of the process.
Both groups will have a role in learning more about the Garden Community as it progresses, contribute to the decisions being made, offer ideas and give their views on how to keep the engagement interesting and suitable for everyone.
The Youth Liaison Group is specifically for people aged 18 to 25, with the Community Liaison Group for anyone aged 26 and above.
Tony Ball, chairman of the Tendring Colchester Borders Garden Community Member Group, said: “We are not looking for planning experts - we want real people with a passion for their community now and in the future”.
Carlo Guglielmi, the Tendring representative, added: “This is a great opportunity to learn more about the proposals for the garden community and to help shape something great for generations to come.
“The time commitment needed is not high and with the benefits of digital meetings, being part of either group will be easy”.
David King, the Colchester representative, said: “These groups, made up of local people, will give us invaluable insight into what really matters to people as they think of life for their children and their children’s children.
“We really do want people who genuinely have a passion for the community and a desire to share their ideas – no expertise is needed”.
Applications are now open and will close on April 7.
Anyone interested must live in the CO postcode area.
