TODAY’S Nostalgia spread takes us to the high seas for a moment that changed the course of music - and radio - forever.

It was in the spring of 1964 that Radio Caroline began broadcasting from a ship anchored in international waters off the Essex coast.

It was Britain’s first commercial radio station and pirate radio fans marked the launch with a special golden anniversary celebration at Walton in March 2014.

Some of the pirate DJs joined in with the celebrations, held in conjunction with Walton Pier and Walton and Frinton Lifeboat Station.

There was a famous face in the crowd, too, thanks to a guest appearance from Only Fools and Horses actor Paul Barber.

Mr Barber, famed for starring opposite David Jason as Denzil in the hit comedy, celebrated his 70th birthday last Thursday.
