A POPULAR pizzeria which closed late last year has confirmed it will be reopening in a new location just outside Colchester town centre.
Cowabunga Pizza was set up by brothers-in-law Tom Long and Tom Bell in 2018 out of a unit in Yorick Road, West Mersea.
The business had gone from strength to strength despite lockdown, launching DIY kits for children to craft their own signature dishes at home, and continuing to offer takeaway when rules allowed.
But the premises closed in November due to a dispute with the business' landlord.
At the time Mr Long and Mr Bell promised Cowabunga Pizza would return and have now announced they have secured new premises in Colchester.
The new unit is located in Moorside, at the bottom of East Hill.
The pair announced the news to their 2,000 plus followers on Facebook.
They said: "Ok we've teased you long enough. Here she is in all her glory.
"Mersea Island we waited as long as we possibly could for you to deliver the right space for us, but we had to pick ourselves up and get back to making pizza and we couldn't wait forever.
"So Cowabunga 2.0 is coming to central Colchester.
"We'll be right at the bottom of East Hill near the level crossing.
"We've got parking a plenty and space to dine in when the guidelines allow."
No opening date for the new premises has yet been announced.
The pair added: "We are super pumped to transform this space into the perfect Cowabunga hangout.
"We'll keep you posted with our progress along the way so keep following for the transformation."

They also thanked Harwin Property Consultants for finding them the "perfect space" in Colchester.
