The county of Essex, that is a bastion of the Conservative Party, sits at number seven of the wealthiest counties in England, according to the Office for National Statistics, with gross value added (GVA) assets in excess of £35.861billion.
Why, with one of the highest rateable household incomes, of £1,846,000, are so many areas of deprivation all in one part, Tendring, the poor man of Essex?
The suspicion is thus, that of sandbagging areas of deprivation for Whitehall’s statistical purposes in the North/South divide along party lines, making Tendring the sacrificial lamb – and all in plain sight.
As an example, the new Chelmsford and Colchester combined £300million Beaulieu Station project that has the support of all 18 of our Conservative MPs.
The argument will go that prosperity will trickle down, but there will be no “treacle in the trickle” for Tendring.
