THE new road layout at Ipswich Road in Colchester is now in operation with works finally being completed.
Works have seen the single roundabouts in both Ipswich Road and Harwich Road converted into larger single roundabouts.
The controversial £6.5 million roadworks scheme was originally set to be completed in December 2019.

But works have faced a myriad of delays due to the complexity of the works and the impact of the Covid pandemic.
Works are understood to have finished around the end of March, with the new layout now having been in use for a about a fortnight.
All three lanes on the approach to the roundabout at the bottom of Ipswich Road are now open to traffic.

Cracks discovered in the nearby Cowdray Avenue Bridge will have to be repaired as part of a separate scheme.
Works on the scheme first started back in September 2018 and were originally scheduled to take 15 months but have taken two and-a-half years.
Some works are still ongoing on site, however, the road is now fully operational.
