CHEMICALS were spilled after a tractor fire in Mersea.
Four crews from Colchester, Clacton, Brightlingsea and an off-road vehicle from Manningtree were called to Colchester Road, West Mersea, at about 3pm on Friday.
At the scene they found the tractor was completely ablaze.
They managed to extinguish the fire by about 4.05pm.
During the incident about 2,000 litres of mixed solution containing chemicals for crop spraying was spilled.
Firefighters worked with Fire Service Scientific Advisors and the Environment Agency for advice on cleaning the solution.

They left the area in the care of the farmer, who will have to excavate the land.
Danny Partridge, station manager at Colchester Fire Station, said: "Crews worked really well to extinguish this fire and establish a water source in a difficult area."
