A SALON has shown how it is using client’s hair in a battle to reduce waste and help the environment.
The Station Hair and Beauty in High Street, Mistley, got involved with the initiative with Green Salon Collective, which help salons become sustainable.
One concept sees customer’s hair turned into a bloom used to soak up oil spills.
Glynne Gerrard, co-owner of the salon, praised the initiative.
He said: “A question we get asked frequently is ‘what do you do with all the hair you collect each week?’ “The answer is as we are members of Green Salon Collective we recycle lots of items and one of these is people’s hair.
“It gets bagged up and sent to the Collective who use it to create amazing hair blooms for soaking up oil spills.
“We are always looking to improve our sustainability credentials and the Collective is a fantastic idea.
“They take products related to our industry which you wouldn’t normally be able to recycle, from the unused chemicals, hair foil and even disposable cups.”
