PLANS for 120 new homes to be built on land near a football club have been revealed.
Taylor Wimpey has submitted a planning application to Colchester Council to build the new estate on land behind Broadfields in Wivenhoe, on a strip of land south of Elmstead Road and off Richard Avenue.
The site, which is located near Wivenhoe Town Football Club, has been allocated for homes in the Wivenhoe Neighbourhood Plan, which was approved after a referendum in 2019.
Homes on the 3.5 hectare site, about the size of three football pitches, will be a mix of two, three and four-bed properties.
Access will be created from Richard Avenue, with new sports pitches, cycle routes and landscaping also forming part of the development.
A planning report states: "The new dwellings are designed with an appearance that reflects their residential use and suburban location, but care has been taken to ensure that the scheme successfully manages the transition from the existing built-up area on the south western side of the site to the new homes which will form the new northern edge of the village.
"The retention of the existing trees and field boundaries, together with the creation of a substantial new area of public open space that incorporates new playing fields on the north side of the town will establish a new facility that will serve the residents of the new homes and the wider community alike."

It adds: "New family homes will be created in a pleasant environment that includes mature trees, retained field boundaries and a landscaped buffer around the site that protects the amenity of the existing properties to the west and south west.
"The site is well served by public transport and the frequent bus services on Colchester Road in particular, as well as being in a location which takes advantage of the services and facilities already available in Wivenhoe."
Colchester Council's planning committee will have the final say on the plans.
