CHILDREN have been getting back to nature and enjoying some forest fun.
Pupils at Prettygate Infant School have soaked up the recent sunshine during weekly forest school sessions, within their grounds in Plume Avenue.
The Reception children visit each week, whatever the weather, and take part in activities such as den-building, making mud pies, using simple tools, storytelling and making a fire.
Last year the school won a mud kitchen as a prize in a competition run by Salvage Stitch Restore.
The kitchen has added another dimension to the forest school and pupils have enjoyed lots of sensory, creative, imaginative and exploratory play with it.
Headteacher Mark Millbourne said: “Forest school gives children the opportunity to spend time and space in a natural environment.
“They get to take part in a range of hands-on activities, while learning about nature.
“We are so lucky to be able to offer our Reception children the forest school sessions on our own school site. We know they have particularly benefited after lockdown.”
Prettygate Infant School has spaces for September. Contact the school for more information.
