FITNESSES fans will be taking on a mammoth challenge in memory of legendary fundraiser Captain Tom Moore.

Twin sisters Chloe and Francesca Townsend and Elaine Smith will be teaming up for the feat in aid of the Pink Ribbon Foundation.

Elaine, from Messing, has been attending classes run by the twins, who grew up in Tiptree, over the past ten years.

After hearing about the national event to raise money in memory of the NHS fundraising stalwart, they decided to devise their own challenge.

It will see them attempt to complete 100 repetitions of 100 exercises all in Elaine’s back garden.

They will be joined by three others women... including one friend who is 85.

The Covid secure event will be live streamed on Instagram and help support cancer charity the Pink Ribbon Foundation.

Chloe said: “The idea came about from the Captain Tom Instagram Page - there was a post about how you can help fundraise by taking part in the Captain Tom 100 challenge and it can be for any charity.

“We wanted to do some fundraising for Pink Ribbon Foundation this year and it just so happens they shared the post too.

“We thought of a few ideas we could do but came up with the idea of 100 repetitions of 100 exercises as we knew this would be a challenge for us.

“We are very thankful to already hit our £100 target but would now love to hit the £500 mark.”

The event takes place tomorrow.

The Captain Tom 100 invites everyone to dream up a challenge based around the number 100 and complete it anytime and anywhere over Captain Tom’s birthday weekend.

The former British Army officer inspired the nation during the dark days of the pandemic when he completed 100 laps of his garden before his 100th birthday. His efforts triggered an outpouring of admiration and he raised £32 million for the NHS.

He died earlier this year just before his 101st birthday.

Footballing star David Beckham, actor Dame Judi Dench and culinary icon Dame Mary Berry are some of the celebrities urging the nation to get involved, over what would have been the weekend of Captain Sir Tom Moore’s 101st birthday.
