A PETITION has been set up calling for councils and politicians to work together to fix flooding issues which have plagued a busy road for decades.
Haven Road, in Hythe in Colchester, floods almost every time there is a high tide in the neighbouring River Colne.
On Friday there were miles of queues across the east of the town, stretching down Clingoe Hill as far as Wivenhoe, after a car broke down in the water.
The following day, the road flooded again, with some drivers being forced to use the pavement to get through the water.
Ward councillors Lee Scordis, Mike Lilley and Adam Fox have set up the petition which is calling for those involved to work together to sort the issue “once and for all”.
The petition states: “For over 60 years Haven Road has flooded.
“Recently all partner agencies worked together and funding was raised to install new drains to stop flooding during heavy rain.
“However, the road still floods during high tide.
“The water itself seems to come from the drains, while a flood valve owned by Anglian Water has been broken for decades.
“We are calling on all partner agencies to work together to resolve this issue once and for all.”
The councillors have also written directly to bosses at Colchester Council, Essex County Council and Anglian Water as well as Colchester MP Will Quince and Department of Environment Food and Rural Affairs minister George Eustace asking for them to work together to sort the issue.
