IT’S official - parkrun is back!
With the main five-kilometre Saturday event hopefully returning on June 5, children burst into action when the junior version made its long-awaited comeback at Clacton on Sunday.
Twenty youngsters took part on a beautiful morning and ran three kilometres along the seafront.
The free, timed walks, jogs or runs will now continue every Sunday at 9am.
The junior parkrun is normally for children aged four to 14 but, to limit numbers because of Covid restrictions, the current age limit is ten.
Clacton event director Nikki Smith said: “It was great to see our junior parkrun return at the weekend.
“With Covid restrictions in place, the children and parents felt happy and safe.
“We welcome anyone who wishes to join us each week, although kindly ask they look at the guidance before coming down. I’d also like to thank the volunteers that give up their time each week to make this event happen. We couldn’t do it without them.” It is hoped the junior events at Colchester and Harwich can return soon.
