BOOKWORMS staged a mammoth fundraising effort for their school.
Pupils held a sponsored reading event and raised more than £1,600 for new books at Highwoods Primary School, in Colchester.
They accumulated minutes for reading, so the more they read, the more was donated.
Usborne Books kindly added a further 60 per cent, bringing the total over £2,500.
Then, thanks to previous parent donations of more than £2,000 during the last lockdown, the grand total reached an impressive £4,500.
Headteacher Paul Disley said: “We’re so grateful to our families for their support and are proud of our parent community.
“They continue to support us and make our school an even better place to be.
“The kindness and generosity shown by families, not only with this sponsored read but over the last year, has been overwhelming.
“A special thank you to Holly Lloyd, a parent at the school, who has led this latest fundraising event.”
The children have been busy choosing new non-fiction books for their classrooms and the school libraries.
